Medium Matryoshkas
The “matriona” (matь = mother) is traditionally associated with a country woman, robust and generously shaped, dressed in her sarafan (traditional dress). More than a simple decorative object, the Matryoshka (or Russian doll, nesting doll) has been a true symbol of Slavic craftsmanship and folklore, especially Russian, since the end of the 19th century. These dolls were once offered at weddings as a symbol of prosperity and fertility.
Our Matryoshki are turned exclusively from linden wood (the traditional wood) and designed in series of 3, 5, 7 or 10 nested dolls of decreasing size; they are all hand painted, hence their unique character despite the “family DNA”. The artistic side also lies in the paintings of each doll, which can be extremely elaborate. Style may vary by region and artist. Naive, lacquered, pyro-engraved, in dazzling colours, our models change regularly. Collectors, young and old, it's up to you!
Tips: Avoid direct exposure to the sun and do not leave the head and body separated so as not to affect the quality of your dolls.
